PROJECTS

Mobile App User Guide

A user guide for the Snapseed photo editing app.

Made using Microsoft Word.

Process

Instead of organizing the guide by the app's features, I made the headings correspond to main user tasks. This makes the document more approachable and avoids stiff system-centered jargon.

Simple, clear headings and concise procedures minimize the time a user has to spend scanning a document for information.

Quick Start Guide

My new earbuds didn't include a quick start, so I made my own in Adobe InDesign.

Design Challenges

1. Mobile Format

Mobile devices have less screen space to work with than computer interfaces.

I kept in mind that designs on my computer would be smaller on mobile—keeping a balance between showing all the necessary items and maintaining readability.

2. Hardware Mania

Hardware can vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle.

Most have touchscreens, but others may use a combination of buttons, knobs, joysticks, and touchpads.

I used consistent verbiage and callouts to clearly convey how to perform actions through still images.

3.  Grouping Info

Showing multiple things at once in mobile format can be tricky.

What a user sees on the screen and what controls they should operate can sometimes be two separate images.

I put myself in the position of a new user to group actions in an intuitive way.
